Weekly Update: Victory in CD-1

Take Action

Support Dosha Workers!

Dosha workers are in month ten of negotiations over their first contract.  Support their fight at an information leaflet at Dosha Salons next week.

February 7th, 3:00pm – 6:00pm at all Dosha locations in the Metro area.

See this week’s article for more information.

Work Connects Us All Hits the Airwaves

The next phase of Work Connects Us All will hit the airwaves in Portland this week.  The National AFL-CIO has launched this program to remind workers of the pride we should take in the work we all do - and the connections we have with each other because of that work.  It is about the person who built your car, who changes your oil, who wires the stoplights on the roads you drive, and the teacher at your kids' school that you're driving to.

The cast of the ad? Union members, hardworking people coming from all types of work.  The aim of the ad is to rise above the partisan, anti-worker rhetoric that we’ve seen so much of recently.

If you haven’t seen the advertisement yet on TV, you can watch it here.

And make sure to visit the Work Connects Us All website where new ways to explore how we are connected can be found.

In Other News...

Suzanne Bonamici wins CD-1 Special Election!

Last night, Northwest Oregon spoke loud and clear by electing Suzanne Bonamici for Congress.  Suzanne won by nearly 30,000 votes and had help from a massive volunteer team aided by Oregon’s union movement.

Union volunteers knocked on over 7,000 doors and spoke with over 15,000 voters over the phone to raise support for Suzanne.  Thanks to all the volunteers who canvassed in the rain and snow, phone banked for hours after work and even hung door hangers at 4:00am on Election Day.  That’s what democracy looks like.

Support Dosha Salon and Spa Workers!

Last week we told you about Dosha’s owner, Ray Motameni:  He has held up a fair contract for his workers for the past year and engaged in unscrupulous actions such as placing illegal surveillance cameras in his salons and reprimanding union supporters.

Next week is your chance to fight back.  Show up at any of the Dosha locations below to participate in an action with national scope and help build leverage on Motameni to settle a fair contract.

We’ll be handing out leaflets at the following locations from 3:00pm – 6:00pm on Tuesday February 7th.

Hawthorne:  3490 SE Hawthorne Blvd.
Northwest: 2281 NW Glisan St.
Bridgeport: 7281 SW Bridgeport Rd.
5th Avenue: 500 SW Washington Ave
Clackamas Town Center: 11840 SE 82nd Ave. #3070
