Take Action

Stand up for Verizon workers: find events near you for today’s day of action here.

National Day of Action for
Verizon Today, March 22nd

Verizon is sending jobs overseas to cut costs –  and asking the employees whose jobs they can't outsource to take massive cuts to their pensions, healthcare and even disability benefits for on-the-job injuries. This, while the top executive with the company walked away with $283 million over the past four years.
Enough is enough.  On March 22nd (Today!) Oregon's union movement will participate in a National Day of Action to put pressure on Verizon to respect their employees, including members of CWA and IBEW.

Auto Parts & American Jobs

There are a few big trade fights where illegal subsidies, coercion, and the transfer of patented information have drastically sped up the loss of American jobs.  Auto parts manufacturing is one of the worst.  Oregon, along with a handful of other states, has been in the crosshairs of the fight to allow American auto manufacturers to keep proprietary information confidential.  In 2011 we fought legislation that would have required auto manufacturers to give out too much information about their parts manufacturing – enough that after-market parts producers could have followed the specs, producing parts in China and undercutting the manufacturer’s American-made parts market.

A few unions are taking on this fight for us in Congress, where they’ve gotten almost 200 Congressional leaders to sign a letter supporting trade sanctions with China that will allow US parts manufacturers to compete on a fair playing field as Chinese manufacturers get more and more information.  Members of Oregon's Congressional Delegation who have signed on include Congressmen Blumenauer, DeFazio, Schrader, Congresswoman Bonamici and Senator Merkley.
