Portland's Convention Center Hotel
The proposed Convention Center Hotel would be union built and staffed by workers who have a fair shot at collectively bargaining for better wages – which is why downtown hoteliers see this hotel as a threat.
But we think a hotel that attracts larger conventions, brings more interest to our state, and raises the standard for workers in a underpaid industry is exactly what Portland – and Oregon - needs. Learn more here.
West Hayden Island Update
Oregon AFL-CIO President Tom Chamberlain responds to halting West Hayden Island annexation.
West Hayden Island would have provided the space we need to increase our export economy and create family-wage jobs while preserving much of the natural habitat.
Paratransit workers had a little more to be thankful for this Thanksgiving, and are looking forward to a holiday season where money is a little less tight.
“Too many voters are being disenfranchised in this country, and much of it is intentional,” said Oregon AFL-CIO President Tom Chamberlain. “In too many states we have seen calculated efforts to lower voter registration, the deliberate spreading of misinformation, improper purging of voter rolls and more. What’s worse is that the Supreme Court failed to stand up for voting rights just months ago.”
